I captured this image from my bedroom window during yesterday’s snowstorm. Because it was not falling too heavily, the snow leaves the near and middle distance easily visible, while drawing a white curtain down over more distant features such as the big box retail stores of Dickson City. It also covers up the asphalt parking lot on the other side of the rustic fence and the road that runs on this side of the fence.
A very pedestrian scene therefore takes on a more interesting, even romantic look. The trees of the park look like they are a mysterious wood that extends some way into the distance. The broken rustic fence and the mighty dead tree trunk on the left serve as dark anchors for the scene. The fence at the foot of the distant trees keep whatever lurks in the forest away from us.

Fresh snow is always lovely to look at from a picture window. It’s the going out in it that sucks.
